Gweeboard (2021)

After completing the three Noise Boxes that were my first finished pieces of voxel art, I wanted to re-use some of the same assets on a new piece while still giving myself a new challenge. The V/U meters, drum pads, knobs and faders were carried over with the addition of a 2-scale piano keyboard, speakers, and some desktop computer elements like a floppy drive and CRT display.

A main piece of design inspiration for this was the Fairlight CMI, one of the earliest instruments to feature sample playback. While it seems fairly primitive by today's audio standards, the CMI was a groundbreaking instrument that cost tens of thousands of dollars when new and still retains its value among collectors.
